Studio Policy and Procedures

Please take a moment to read through the these policies and procedures. If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Lesson Pricing and Payment

The current cost of a lesson is $60/hr. Pricing is as follows:

  • 30 minutes: $120/month

  • 45 minutes: $180/month

  • 60 minutes: $240/month

An invoice will be sent to you via email at the end of each month, and payment for next month is due on the 1st without exception. You can also choose to pay for multiple months at once. Methods of payment accepted are E-Transfer, Cheque, and Cash. There will be a $20 late charge for payments made after the 1st of the month. If payment is missed without notice 2 weeks into the month, lessons will be suspended until the balance is paid.

My studio follows the academic year calendar. Lessons run from September to June, with the option of continuing through the summer.

Missed lessons

There are no refunds for missed lessons. Students are allowed a limit of 3 makeup lessons per year. These lessons will be booked based on availability of the teacher’s schedule and may happen after the end of the academic year. Missed lessons require a 24 hour notice in order to receive a makeup lesson. If cancelation happens prior to that time, the lesson will be forfeited.

If the student is sick, please do not attend your lesson in person. If they feel well enough to still do a lesson, please request an online lesson. Students who show up to lessons sick will be asked to leave and will forfeit their lesson.

Teacher cancellation may happen through the year; in this case a makeup lesson will be schedule at the earliest convenience of both teacher and student.

Discontinuing Lessons

A minimum of 1 month’s notice is required to cancel lessons. When notice is given, it is expected that the monthly fee for the entirety of the following month be paid. Students may still continue with lesson for that month.

Student requirements and materials

Music books can be purchased at music stores in town such as Long & McQuade. If the student requests, I can purchase books for them and include it in their invoice.

Please bring a pencil, water bottle, notebook, and all music that is being worked on to lessons. Students are expected to practice in between lessons, show up on time, bring with them an open mind and a willingness to learn, commit to their lesson times, and show myself, the studio, my home and partner, and all other students they may encounter respect

Student Admission

I teach voice and piano to students ages 5 and up. A registration form will be sent for your completion prior to starting lessons.

The Studio Space

In the best interest of the student and their ability to learn and grow, parents are discouraged from sitting in on lessons. I do not have a waiting space in my home, so please plan to either wait in your vehicle or plan to come back at the end of the student’s lesson time.

Please do not show up more than 5 minutes early for your lesson time! Since there is no in house waiting area, I ask that students kindly wait until 1 or 2 minutes before their lesson to knock on the door. Please do not drop off your child early or show up late to pick them up. This impedes the lessons of others.

The studio is a part of my home; you may encounter my partner who lives in the house as well (although he is conscious not to enter the space while teaching is in progress). You may also encounter two cats. If you have allergies, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your needs, clean well, and keep the cats away during lessons.

Safer Space

All are welcome in my studio, regardless of race, gender, orientation, disability, or neurodivergence. There is a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech and queerphobic comments from students, parents, or anyone entering the studio.
